North America was divided. The French and British battled over land and trade. Men judged and condemned others based on religion, race, and nationality. Yet, many brave individuals headed west in hopes of making their fortune in the fur trade. One such man was Paul L'Archevêque. Determined to succeed in the French fur trade, he abandoned the comforts of home for the wild frontier. His life was often interrupted by hardship and tragedy. Difficult sacrifices were made for the sake of survival. Still, Paul L'Archevêque remained a true frontiersman who led his life through his own daring and rugged individualism. L'Archevêque is a compelling novel based on a true story. Paul L'Archevêque was a real person and much of this book is based on real events from history.

I am in the middle of reading this book and it is absolutely amazing!!! If you miss out it is your own fault. So many history lessons woven into a family story that can be appreciated by both young, old and in between. If this book does not spur you on to explore history in conjunction with your own family history I do not know what would. Treat yourself, your family or friends by getting your hands on this book at .
Larsh certainly can tell a narrative combining drama and action, as he honed his writing skills
while a career federal investigator. Chapter 4 about Virginia pioneers attacked by the Shawnee
in 1756 is riveting. He tells it like your right there, as the Indians raid the home of a family
of young Pioneers. The story is more than about pioneers but about his relative a French Canadian from Montreal
who becomes a fur trader and travels the Ohio river valley dealing with the Indians.
A terrific read!
Great Book, love history !!!
